Voice Your Opinion on Housing Needs
Residents of San Diego County are invited to play an active role in shaping their community's future as the County’s Housing and Community Development Services opens the floor for public input on funding priorities. With funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, residents can contribute to the 2026-2027 Annual Plan, which directly affects housing, community improvements, and economic development initiatives.
Everyone's Input Counts
County officials emphasize that community members are the experts when it comes to identifying their needs. David Estrella, the director of Housing and Community Development Services, urges citizens to share their experiences and suggestions. “These federal funds help bring important services and projects to our community with the greatest need,” he said, encouraging participation both online and in-person at a series of community input sessions.
Funding Opportunities on the Table
The federal funds supporting these initiatives come from several grant programs designed to uplift lower-income households and improve community infrastructure. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) aims to address local housing needs, while the HOME Investment Partnerships Program focuses on affordable housing development. For those facing homelessness, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and Housing Opportunities for Persons With HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) offer additional support. Previous years have seen successful projects such as affordable housing, home repair programs, and the establishment of neighborhood parks, showcasing the tangible impact of these funds.
How to Get Involved
The County is hosting six in-person and two virtual input sessions from June 10 to June 20, providing ample opportunity for residents to voice their opinions. The first event takes place in Del Mar on June 11, with subsequent sessions in Fallbrook, Spring Valley, and Alpine among others. For those unable to attend in person, an online survey is available to ensure everyone has a chance to contribute their ideas.
Your Input Matters
This is a pivotal moment for residents to influence their local community and ensure that the projects funded meet their needs. By participating, you can help inform decisions that shape housing and community development in San Diego County. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make your voice heard and contribute to the welfare of your community!
