The San Diego Emergency Medical Services Corps is currently accepting applications for its upcoming training programs, which aim to equip young individuals with essential skills in emergency medical services. This initiative sees participation from youth who have faced challenges within the child welfare or juvenile justice systems, thereby offering them a crucial opportunity to build a promising career.
Key Details About the EMS Corps Program
Beginning in January and June of 2026, selected candidates between the ages of 18 and 27 will receive comprehensive training under the program. Eligible applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, along with a valid driver’s license, to gain entry into this transformative process. Each of the two sessions will welcome 20 students, all of whom will benefit from a $1,500 monthly stipend throughout the program's five-month duration.

The EMS Corps program, which has successfully trained over 500 individuals since its inception in 2012, puts an emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. Students will not only attend classes at Southwestern College but will also have the unique opportunity to engage in ride-alongs with local ambulance services. As Program Manager Nicholas Bye-Carnes stated, the focus is not only on education but also on continued support post-graduation. Participants will benefit from mentorship, job placement assistance, and career coaching, ensuring a well-rounded preparation for their future careers in emergency medical services.
