As the sun rises the day after one of San Diego's busiest beach days, residents are invited to step up and join the 19th annual "Morning After Mess" cleanup organized by the Surfrider Foundation of San Diego County. This event takes place on the morning of July 5, from 9 a.m. to noon, at nine official sites across the region, aiming to tackle the significant litter left behind post-Independence Day celebrations.
The Need for Action
Independence Day attracts beachgoers in droves, making it the most attended beach day of the year. Unfortunately, this popularity comes with a downside—an overwhelming amount of trash. According to the Surfrider Foundation, an incredible 1,700 pounds of trash were collected in a single year during previous cleanups. This year, volunteers can lend a hand at beaches from Oceanside to Imperial Beach, including popular spots like Moonlight Beach and Mission Beach.
