
San Antonio’s Jazz’SAlive Festival: Celebrating a Rich Musical Tradition
This weekend, the heart of downtown San Antonio will transform into an exhilarating celebration of jazz, food, and culture as the 42nd Annual Jazz’SAlive Festival takes center stage at Civic Park. Scheduled for September 26 and 27, this highly anticipated weekend event is one of the largest free jazz festivals in the nation, drawing an expected crowd of around 15,000 attendees. Festival-goers can soak in the festive atmosphere from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Star-Studded Lineup to Inspire
This year’s festival is set to showcase an impressive lineup of both established and rising stars. Friday will feature Endea Owens and the Cookout, a dynamic jazz bassist and Emmy, Grammy, and Peabody award winner known for her collaborations with icons like Wynton Marsalis and Diana Ross. As a pivotal voice in the current jazz scene, Owens aims to keep the genre vibrant and accessible to younger audiences.
Saturday will bring the electrifying sounds of Pedrito Martinez, an Afro-Cuban percussionist celebrated for his high-energy performances and collaborations with musical legends such as Bruce Springsteen. Local talents, including MiChelle Garibay-Carey and the U.S. Air Force veteran Brenná Parker, will also take the stage, ensuring inclusivity in the lineup.
